Split Rights Deal

A distribution model where different rights are licensed to different distributors.

Full Definition

A split rights deal allows filmmakers to retain control by licensing different distribution formats to different companies. For example, you might sell theatrical rights to one company, streaming rights to another, and keep international rights to sell territory by territory. This approach requires more work and negotiation but can result in better deals for each right and greater long-term control over your film's exploitation.
