Sync License
Permission to use a copyrighted song synchronized to visual content in your film.
Full Definition
A sync (synchronization) license grants you the right to pair a specific copyrighted song with visual content in your film. You need two licenses: one from the publisher (for the composition) and one from the label (for the master recording). Sync licenses range from free (for unsigned/independent artists) to tens of thousands of dollars for well-known songs.
