Music Clearances

Licensing music for use in your film across different formats and territories.

Full Definition

Music clearance involves obtaining two separate licenses for any copyrighted music: a sync license from the music publisher (for the composition) and a master license from the record label (for the recording). Costs vary enormously based on usage, territory, and term. Festival-only clearances are cheaper; all-media worldwide licenses can cost thousands per song. Always budget for music clearances early in production.
